Custom Lenses,
Designed for Your Eyes

Lenses customised to the way your eyes really see

More precise measurements. More personalised lenses. More natural vision.

Why lens customisation matters

Most glasses are still made using a standard prescription and generic assumptions about the eye. But every eye is different. That means a lens designed from averages may not be the best match for how you actually see.

At Darwin Eyecare, we take a more personalised approach. With DNEye testing, we capture detailed biometric information about your eyes to support a more customised lens design.

Most lenses are calculated from four standard prescription values and standard assumptions based on a reduced eye model, and that these standard values suit only 2% of eyes.

The Rodenstock DNEye® scanner measures over 7,000 data points across the eye. This high-precision scanner collects, in addition to standard prescription values, more than 80 key biometric parameters—including corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, and pupil size—to create a 3D model of each eye

Precision lenses start with better measurements

At Darwin Eyecare, we use the Rodenstock ImpressionIST system to take precise fitting measurements for your chosen frame and lenses. How your glasses sit on your face matters: the position of the frame, the distance from your eyes, the tilt of the lenses and the way you naturally wear your glasses can all affect how clearly and comfortably you see.

The ImpressionIST uses 3D video centration technology to capture key measurements, helping us personalise your lenses to your eyes, your frame and the way you wear your glasses. Rodenstock describes ImpressionIST as a 3D video system for measuring optical data, supporting frame and lens advice for a more precisely matched pair of spectacles.

More natural vision

Designed to support clearer, more comfortable everyday vision.

Rodenstock B.I.G. lenses: biometric intelligent glasses

Rodenstock B.I.G. lenses are designed to go beyond a standard prescription. Instead of relying only on traditional lens values and average eye models, B.I.G. lens technology uses biometric information to create lenses that are more closely matched to the individual eye.

For patients who want a more personalised lens experience, this can support clearer, more natural and more comfortable vision, particularly in progressive, multifocal and higher-performance lens designs.

Rodenstock describes B.I.G. Vision as Biometric Intelligent Glasses, with some lens designs using precise biometric data captured through DNEye technology.

The benefits of custom DNEye lenses

Using Rodenstock Impressionist to measure a perfect glasses fit.

Designed around your eyes, not average eyes

B.I.G. lenses use detailed biometric measurements to create a lens design that is more personalised than a standard prescription alone.

More precise vision correction

DNEye technology captures additional information about how your eyes focus and perform, helping refine the lens design for clearer vision.

Personalised to the way you actually wear your glasses

The final lens design considers your selected frame and natural wearing position, rather than relying only on standard measurements.

Speciality sports lenses

See clearly, move confidently and enjoy the outdoors with prescription sports lenses tailored to the way you live.

At Darwin Eyecare, we offer speciality Rodenstock lens options for sport, outdoor activities and active lifestyles. Whether you are fishing on the water, playing golf, running, cycling, driving, boating or spending long days in the Top End sun, the right lens design and tint can make a noticeable difference to comfort, clarity and performance.

Sports lenses are not just about making sunglasses darker. They can be customised to support contrast, glare control, depth perception, peripheral awareness and visual comfort in different environments.

Fishing and boating

On the water, glare can be intense. The right prescription sun lens can help reduce reflected glare, improve visual comfort and make it easier to see detail around the water’s surface.

For fishing, boating and coastal activities, we can discuss lens options such as polarised prescription lenses, sun protection, wrap-compatible designs and tints suited to bright outdoor conditions.

Golf

Golf places unique demands on vision. You need clear distance vision, good depth judgement, comfortable scanning across the course and the ability to follow the ball against changing backgrounds.

Speciality golf lens options may help enhance contrast, support comfortable distance viewing and reduce visual fatigue during long periods outdoors.

Running, cycling and active wear

For running, cycling and other active pursuits, lenses need to support clear vision while staying comfortable in movement. Depending on your prescription and frame choice, we can help select lens options that balance clarity, sun protection, weight, fit and peripheral vision.

Prescription sports eyewear can be especially useful if you prefer not to wear contact lenses during exercise, or if you want a dedicated pair for outdoor training.

Driving and outdoor lifestyle

Many people in Darwin spend significant time driving in bright, high-glare conditions. Prescription sun lenses can be customised for everyday outdoor use, helping reduce glare and improve comfort while maintaining clear vision.

We can talk you through options for polarised lenses, prescription sunglasses, progressive sun lenses and lens colours suited to your lifestyle.

Personalised advice

The best sports lens depends on your prescription, frame fit, sport, environment and how you use your eyes.

At Darwin Eyecare, we take the time to understand your lifestyle before recommending lenses. We can help you choose a Rodenstock lens and tint combination designed for your specific visual needs, whether that is fishing, golf, running, cycling, driving or everyday outdoor comfort.

Made and fit here in Darwin

Unlike many practices that need to send frames away for lens fitting, Darwin Eyecare has invested in our own in-house lens fitting lab. With our frame tracer and lens edger, we can trace, edge and fit many lenses on-site.

For eligible lens and frame combinations, this means your glasses may be ready within 24 hours, without needing to wait several days for them to be sent away.

  • 24-hour turnaround depends on lens type, prescription, frame choice and lens availability. We’ll let you know the expected timeframe when you order.

Invest in your eyes, you use them everyday

Personalised lenses, designed for the way you see.

For many standard lens orders, we can fit lenses into your chosen frame right here in our Darwin lab. That means less waiting, no interstate delays, and more control over the final fit.

FAQs

Many standard lens and frame combinations can be fitted within 24 hours. This depends on your prescription, lens type, frame choice and whether the lenses are available. We’ll confirm the expected timeframe when you order.

Not all lenses are made on-site. Some specialised, customised or complex lenses may still need to be ordered through Rodenstock. However, our in-house lab allows us to trace, edge and fit many lenses locally.

B.I.G. stands for Biometric Intelligent Glasses. These lenses are designed using biometric information or advanced eye models, helping create a more personalised lens design than standard prescription values alone.

It measures how your selected frame sits on your face, including important fitting details that help customise the lenses to your eyes and wearing position.

For many patients, especially those choosing progressive lenses, higher prescriptions or premium eyewear, personalised lenses can improve comfort, clarity and ease of adaptation.
